It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them. - Emerson

Welcome. :o) This journal is Friends Only for various reasons, minus one or two sporadic public entries here and there. Leave a comment if you'd like to be added. Thanks for stopping by!

Over the past few weeks, I've found journals of people I know randomly (people I wouldn't necessarily want reading my journal). The thought that they could just as easily find mine creeps me out. Plus, I catch my parents reading my journal's time for me to monitor what they can and cannot access ;-)

Hehe, it's quite all right. If I'd gotten this message a couple of days ago, I might have been able to go, but I've made plans for tonight...maybe another time ;D

Yet another random person. My name's Victor and I'm an incoming first-year undergrad at the University of Virginia. I graduated from TJHSST, a Virginia Governor's School for Science & Technology in Northern Virginia. Met you on the hs_class_of_03 board while talking about your friend Nicole, who is kind enough to even desire to grace our fair state of Virginia with her presence.
You seem friendly. I've added you to my friends list. Feel free to do the same.

Awesome, I definitely will!

And I've heard of your old high school...I did winter guard and saw your school's team at some of the same competitions =)

Hey girl....I was at the game and DID stay during halftime to watch band perform. Good job. Anyway, I was curious if I could add you as a friend?

You don't know me, but I was just looking around at different UNC students, and you seemed friendly and stuff so I thought I would see if you could maybe answer some questions for me. Sorry to bug you, but I figure you can get the best information from the students, ya know?

Alright, well I am a senior, so obviously right about now is the hectic rush to get in all my applications on time, and it's really stressful, and I'm having last-minute reservations about everything. I always thought Chapel Hill was WHERE I wanted to go, but now I'm not sure anymore... like... first of all, there's the question of getting in... I take like all AP and honors courses, 2 AP's last year and 4 this year, I got a 1420 on my SAT's, but my extracurriculars are crap... I have piano, which I've stuck to for about 10 years, but that's completely it. I am in-state. Do you think I could get in, even though I have like no extra crap?

The other thing bugging me about Carolina lately... it's so... HUGE. I thought I wanted that, but now I'm not so sure. Does it ever seem overwhelming, too vast, or just too... impersonal? Are the teachers good? Do they have interaction with individual students, or are all the classes just huge?

And the last thing I was wondering is, what are some of the things that you guys do in your spare time? What little of it that you have, I'm sure. But what is there to do for fun?

Once again, sorry for bugging you, you probably get stuff like this a lot, since Carolina is such a popular school... but it'd mean a lot to me if you could just answer my questions whenever you got a chance. Thanks so much!

I’m pretty sure you’ll get into UNC. Even though your EC’s aren’t as impressive as the rest, what you do have is probably enough. Your SAT score itself is about 200 points higher than the in-state average, so that’s a big plus. Also, admissions like to see that you stick to certain activities…so doing piano for 10 years is an advantage for you. You can also put any community things you done, like with your church or whatever, to help build up that aspect of your application. If your GPA is over a 4.0 (and it should be, with all your AP’s), I think you’ll be fine.

I thought the same thing about Carolina when I first came here…but you’ll quickly learn where you’re going, and once you’ve been here for a couple of months, it really doesn’t seem so enormous. The campus itself is gorgeous (in my opinion) and sometimes there’s nothing better than just walking around the quad on a sunny October day (unlike today, lol). As far as teachers go, I would definitely recommend getting a subscription to when it comes time to register for classes. Of course, that’s just the opinion of other people…the only true way to know is to see for yourself. I’ve had a pretty good experience so far with professors. I’ve been to my geology professor’s office hours, and he was really nice. If you take the time to come talk to them, especially in bigger classes, it will definitely help you get to know them better. Not all classes are huge, by the way. Most of the general intro classes are like that simply because so many undergrads need those courses for their majors. But your English class won’t have over 19 students, and all foreign language classes rarely have over 25. Just to give you an idea, my English class has 19, my Spanish has around 20, geology has maybe 140, geology lab has around 30, and philosophy has around 150. I had an econ class that had about 300, but I dropped it because I found it too time consuming for right now.

There’s lots of stuff to do as far as fun goes. Most people go on Franklin St, which is pretty much the center “strip” in Chapel Hill. Lots of restaurants, shops, clubs, etc to go to, and you can ride the bus from south campus (where you will live as a freshman) to get there, so there’s no problem of transportation. Everyone here is gearing up for Halloween, which is the biggest party of the year…thousands of people go out on Franklin and have a good time dressed up in costumes. Thursday nights are the “go out and get drunk nights”, and there are plenty of frat parties every Thursday to go to. You’re a girl, so you’ll get in fine…if you’re into that sort of thing. If not, there’s still plenty of stuff to do. Southpoint mall is just a bus ride away (and it’s really nice); there’s also going to Cat’s Cradle to see bands play, and going to football/basketball games (depending on the season). Basically, there is pretty much anything, so whatever you’re into, you’ll find a niche here.

Hope I helped some…good luck with all your applications! =)

Hey...i did a search on LJ for people that were interested in carolina crown (i marched 98/99) and your LJ came up. I saw you were into CG and were a christian so I figured I'd drop you a line. Feel free to add me or not at your whim. Thanks!

:) Sure, I'll add you. I've thought about auditioning for Crown but haven't had the time (or, if I'm being completely honest, the guts, lol). But I do enjoy their shows. nice to meet ya!

Hey! My name is Karen... i actually found you through a comment you left on Sarah Dessen's journal. I'm a freshmen at UNC, originally from Charlotte, a potential english major. I saw that you are interested in harry potter, disney movies, and broadway (which pretty much sums up my life). So i decided to leave you a nice little comment and just say hi.

Hiya, it's Charles (Crumpletoes). Fio directed me to your LJ, and I figured I'd drop in. ^^
I've added you, if that's okay. Just thought I'd leave a comment to let ya know! Later!

I'm a mod over at 2007weddings, and I came over to your journal when I approved your membership. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your profile and we seem to have some similar points of view on a few things. (ie freelance writing and taking care of our men and cats as an activity) You did winterguard which I'd have given ANYTHING to do back in the day, and I still miss colorguard to this day.

Anyway, my point is that I don't generally friend random journals, but you've sucked me in and I'd love to add you as a friend if you don't mind. My journal is friends-only as well (I even go so far as to privatize entries after awhile). I understand if you decline, but I think it's be fun to get to know someone new. :)

PS I'm going to add you so you have access to my journal entries and can decide from there.

Hey! Sure, I'll add you. :) I actually STILL do winter guard, I didn't want to stop after high school! I'm in a senior guard, and I think one of my entries has a link to our show from this past year if you'd like to see it (it was a pirates of the Caribbean show).

Hey sweetie!! I am friends with Nicole irishrose26, and I wanted to add you because you seem awesome! Is that okay? And btw, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your Land Before Time icons!!! :)

Definitely okay with me! :o) I can't take credit for the icons, the tmg_icons community has tons of great stuff that I snagged them from. ;)

I came across your journal when doing an interest search for the Hurricanes.

My friend and I are starting a hockey community on LJ this season and I'd like for you to check it out.

If you like what you see & think it might be a place that would interest you, please join. It's definitely a case where the expression "the more the merrier" is accurate.

Hope to see you around!
